TAIPEI — Changzhi Township in Pingtung County has signed a joint declaration to establish a sister-city relationship with the Municipality of Dingalan in Aurora, Philippines.
The partnership aims to promote future exchanges in agriculture, fisheries, tourism, education, and culture, CNA reported. The signing ceremony took place in Subic Bay, with Changzhi Mayor Wu Liang-ching (吳亮慶) and Dingalan Mayor Shierwin Taay in attendance.
Wu said Changzhi Township is prepared to collaborate with Dingalan on agricultural ventures and technology transfers to improve the livelihoods of Dingalan residents. He also suggested that the Pingtung Agricultural Biotechnology Park, located in Changzhi Township, could serve as a hub for processing agricultural and fishery products from Dingalan for distribution across Southeast Asia and globally.
Taay noted that many Filipinos have a strong affinity for Taiwan, with a significant number residing there. He also highlighted the expansion of Taiwanese businesses into the Philippines. The new sister-town relationship symbolizes opportunities for friendship and mutual assistance, particularly in agriculture, fisheries, education, youth development, and sustainable livelihoods, he said.
Dingalan will send a delegation to Changzhi Township in March to observe agricultural and fisheries technology and explore cooperation opportunities. A formal sister-city agreement will be signed once both sides receive approval from their respective legislative bodies.
