TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Filipino delegation visited I-Mei Food Co.'s factory in Taoyuan's Longtan on Wednesday (Dec. 11), where they were given a tour by the company’s Filipino workers.
The group included Manila Economic & Cultural Office Chair Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil, and Trade Representative and Director for Commercial Affairs at the Philippine Trade & Investment Center in Taipei, Anthony Rivera. Also part of the delegation were MECO Head Executive Assistant Maru Aguilar and PTIC-Taipei Investment Officer Terry Lin.
Company partner 7A Drones welcomed the group with a banner. A pesticide spraying simulation and a fireworks show followed later.
The representatives visited I-Mei's Bong-Khang wind tunnel. They learned that it serves as a testing facility for drone structural endurance. The 45-meter-long, 5-meter-wide tunnel simulates four extreme weather conditions: cold, hot, windy, and rainy.
The company’s ice bank silos were also introduced to the delegation. These silos utilize off-peak electricity to generate and store ice overnight for daytime air conditioning, enabling the company to decrease its energy consumption.
Garafil was amazed by the factory’s research floor dedicated to finding anti-cancer compounds in food. The industry’s ability to attract and utilize Filipino workers is also impressive, she remarked.
I-Mei's success can be credited to its dedication to research and its trust in Filipino workers, Garafil noted. She expressed hope for a continued partnership between the two countries.
Rivera thanked the company for helping Filipino families and migrant workers. “We are here to support the interests of I-mei in future engagements in the Philippines,” he said.
MECO bridges centuries-old ties between the Philippines and Taiwan. The agency promotes cooperation in investment, science, technology, tourism and labor, facilitating exchanges and opportunities for both nations.
The PTIC-Taipei, representative office of the Philippines’ Department of Trade and Industry, promotes Philippine trade and investment in Taiwan. The DTI coordinates, promotes, facilitates and regulates the country’s trade, industry and investment activities.
