The Manila Economic and Cultural Office on Friday turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development relief goods from Taiwan intended for victims of successive typhoons Kristine and Pepito.

MECO Chair Cheloy E. Velicaria-Garafil accepts from TECO Representative Wallace Chow the 5-ton assorted relief supplies from Taiwan on Friday.

In simple rites, Chair Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil endorsed to the DSWD the Taiwanese donation of five tons of assorted supplies.

The supplies include emergency shelter kits, solar lamps, bedding sets, sleeping mats, mosquito nets, kitchen sets, and personal hygiene items to address the most immediate needs of those affected families and communities.

DSWD Director Leo Quintilla, who accepted the relief supplies, said most of the supplies will go to typhoon victims in Calabarzon.

Earlier, Garafil accepted the humanitarian assistance from Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines Representative Wallace Chow, who expressed hope the assistance will help the victims “rebuild their homes and resume normal lives.”

The estimated value of the relief supplies is placed at P5 million.

“We cannot thank you enough for your assistance to our people in need,” Garafil told Chow in accepting the donation. “Our people are most grateful,” she added.

In the aftermath of typhoon Kristine, Taiwan also donated $150,000 in humanitarian assistance preceded by a 500-ton rice donation mostly given to typhoon victims in the Bicol region. ###
