The Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on 26 December airlifted relief supplies to Cebu in the Philippines for victims of Typhoon “Odette.”

As soon as media reported about the damage caused by the typhoon, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen conveyed her condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims.

She then instructed related government agencies to provide aid to the Philippines.

The people and government of Taiwan quickly carried out humanitarian work.

Two shipments of relief goods worth $50,000 including bottled water, canned tuna, instant noodles, food rations, tents, cookies, water filters were flown to the Philippines from Pingtung Air Force Base by two C-130 Hercules cargo planes which landed at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport on 25 and 26 December.

Taiwan Representative Peiyung Hsu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines handed over the donation to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) for subsequent relief distribution to the affected areas and people.

The process of the supplies unloading was in compliance with health protocols and quarantine measures of Taiwan and the Philippines.

To contribute to the relief and rehabilitation efforts of the Philippine government, Taiwan donated $500,000 to the Philippines on 22 December.

Taiwan Association Inc. Philippines and Love From Koten Foundation also donated P2.7 million and P2 million, respectively, in disaster relief assistance.

The relief work jointly conducted by the Taiwan government and Taiwan NGOs embodies the spirit of “Taiwan can help, and Taiwan is helping!”
