Philippines opens borders to travelers with valid visas

Travelers with valid and existing visas and Filipinos from Taiwan going to the Philippines are set to be welcomed to the country hassle-free. This as the national government announced that there will be no need for facility-based quarantine for fully-vaccinated foreigners (holders of 9a visa) and Filipinos upon arrival so long as they come from "green" countries.

Malacañang disclosed that the country’s Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) updated its protocols for fully vaccinated individuals who are qualified for green lanes.

The Palace announced that fully-vaccinated Filipinos can choose to take the same RT-PCR test as foreigners within 72 hours before departure. They can show a negative result, or choose to take the RT-PCR test at a quarantine facility upon their arrival in the Philippines and stay at the facility until they receive a negative result.

Upon arrival in the Philippines, they can do self-health management for any symptoms of Covid-19 for 14 days.

Taiwan – which is included in the green countries list as of 8 October – ranks seventh among tourists coming in the Philippines, with over 300,000 Taiwanese visitors entering the country before the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

In 2020, Taiwan dropped a few notches but remained at number seven with 48,644 arrivals in the Philippines due to air travel restrictions from select countries such as China, Korea, and Taiwan.

Aside from the Philippines, France has also listed Taiwan as one of the “green" countries from which vaccinated travelers with valid and existing 9a visas are not subject to any health measures or movement restrictions amid the pandemic.

The country’s IATF -- in its Resolution 142 approved on 7 October -- initially directed fully vaccinated individuals from “green” countries to undergo facility-based quarantine until the release of the negative result of their RT-PCR test taken on their fifth day in the country.

It classified green countries or jurisdictions as “low risk” countries or jurisdictions, upon the recommendation of the Department of Health.

The task force, in its new guidelines, also shortened to five days the quarantine period for unvaccinated individuals.
