Taipei City, Taiwan - More than 200 Filipino workers recently completed a skills training program organized by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Taipei City.

“It is encouraging to see that more and more of our kababayans are availing of this laudable project of our labor department,” said Chairman and Resident Representative Angelito Banayo of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office, who was the guest speaker in the completion ceremonies.

The skills training courses are part of the Department of Labor and Employment’s re-integration program for overseas workers, which aims at providing additional training and knowledge to Filipinos returning to the Philippines after working abroad.

Among the courses offered in the training programs were in the fields of photography, culinary and information technology.

The additional skill set that these trainings provide would hopefully help returning OFWs in setting up their own businesses or employ them in other meaningful means of livelihood in the Philippines, Chairman Banayo said.

Labor Officer Cesar Chavez and OWWA Officer Dayang Dayang Sittie Kaushar Jaafar said they are working on expanding the skills training program to accommodate more Filipino workers in Taiwan.
