MECO’s commercial affairs arm assisted in facilitating two dialogues between representatives from the Philippine electronic industry and interested Taiwanese research institutes last August 24 and 25, 2018.

Accompanied by Mr. Michael Alfred Ignacio, director of MECO’s commercial affairs section, Mr. Earl Qua, president of the Electronics Industry Association of the Philippines (EIAP), met with representatives from two Taiwanese research centers, namely, the Institute of Information Industry (Triple I) and the Industrial Technology Research Institute. The goal of the two meetings is to reinforce Philippine-Taiwan collaborations via industry capacity building and partnerships.

The first meeting happened on August 24 when EIAP President Qua met with Mr. Yuster Yu, president of the Taiwan’s Institute of Information Industry (Triple I). The two personalities discussed about potential joint initiatives and projects they can enter in the future.

On the following day, August 25, Qua and Ignacio went to Hsinchu City to discuss possible areas of cooperation with officials from the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI).

The two meetings were also graced by the presence of MECO Chairman Angelito Banayo who also serves as the Resident Representative of the Philippine Representative Office in Taiwan. In addition, some representatives from the Philippine Board of Investments were also present during the two events.

A week after, Qua and his affiliate organization also joined the Philippine delegation to the SEMICON Taiwan 2018 held last September 5-7, 2018 at the Nangang Exhibition Center, Taipei City.
