Today, there are more reasons for us to celebrate. We do not only observe a very important chapter of our history, the declaration of Philippine Independence 126 years ago, we also join the global celebration of Migrant Workers Day.

Here in Taiwan there is no better way to pay homage to our present day Katipuneros and look back at the heroism of our revolutionary ancestors than to enhance our friendly relations with the people of Taiwan. 

Being close neighbors, the Philippines and Taiwan share common historical evolutions with our people sharing similar aspiration for freedom. 

Let the intensity of this shared desire for sovereignty and independence fortify the tie that binds that Filipinos and the people of Taiwan. Let the events of today signify the resolute determination of both our peoples. 

We salute the galant filipino warriors of yesterday and today.
