Caroling Competition to highlight 2018 Paskong Pinoy

Posted: 10/26/2018 12:00 AM

A caroling contest will serve as the main feature of this year’s  Paskong Pinoy to be held on December 9, 2018 in the Expo Hall of the Flower Expo Park, Taipei City.

The Paskong Pinoy is an annual event held by MECO every December for Filipinos in Taiwan. With the theme, “Big Hearts, Big Group: Pa-Christmas Caroling ng MECO!”, this year’s Paskong Pinoy plans to showcase Filipino Christmas culture and tradition. By enabling the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to participate in a caroling contest, MECO believes that this event will help Filipinos to experience the Christmas atmosphere even if they are far from home.

MECO invites Filipinos to form groups composed of 15-30 members and prepare a six minute caroling presentation either in Filipino or English. Performances should be conducted in a capella and the use of any musical instrument is not allowed. Groups are discouraged to use costly and extravagant costumes and props, but they are allowed to wear uniforms such as community or organization shirts.

The top five (5) caroling groups will receive a Noche Buena package. Moreover, in order to celebrate the spirit of gift-giving during Christmas, the Top 5 groups will receive a cash prize to be donated to the group’s chosen beneficiary in the Philippines such as but not limited to charity organizations, churches, old folk homes, orphanages, hospitals or impoverished communities.

Interested groups should submit their registration before November 16, 2018, 6:00 PM. Registration form is available for download via this link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1HPzvUYhKK4c6raeLSSR4jKSpVTBXeHqC.

In addition, the 2018 Paskong Pinoy will hold a Gift of Positivity event where attendees will be encouraged to write inspirational messages, quotations or prayers to be dropped in a gift box. This gift box will be opened at the end of the program and attendees can randomly draw a message of optimism written by other people present during the event.
