Passport Releasing Procedure and Reminders

All passports are evaluated and approved by the Department of Foreign Affairs and printed in the Philippines. New passports are expected to be released as early as five (5) weeks from the date of application, taking into account the printing process in the Philippines and the transmittal of the physical passports to Taiwan. Expedited processing is not available, considering the foregoing.

MECO shall reach out to successful passport applicants through SMS or e-mail as soon as the passports are available for claiming. Alternatively, passport applicants may monitor the status of their passports through the Passport Releasing Portal

Modes of Releasing of Passport

A successful passport applicant may either claim their passports personally, through an authorized representative, or through the passport delivery service. Clients need not book an appointment in advance to claim their passports. Walk-in clients will be accommodated.

1.    Personal Claiming

When the passport is available for claiming, the holder may claim the passport by presenting the following:

a.    Old Passport (For Passport Renewal Applicants); and

b.    MECO Claim Stub.

The old passport shall be cancelled prior to the release of the new one. The old and new passports shall be returned to the holder after the holder has confirmed that the personal information reflected on the new passport is correct.

Passport holders are advised to review the personal information reflected on their new passports thoroughly.

2.    Through Authorized Representative

Should a passport applicant opt to have another person claim their new passport on their behalf, they should inform the passport processor of this on the day of their passport application. To authorize another person to claim one’s passport, the applicant is required to fill-up and submit an Authorization Form for passport releasing on the day of their passport application. The Authorization Form is available here or at the Passport Services section.

When the passport is available for claiming, the authorized representative may claim the passport by presenting the following:

a.    Old Passport (For Passport Renewal Applicants);

b.    MECO Claim Stub; and

c.     I.D. of the authorized representative for verification.

The passport releasing officer shall verify the identity of the authorized representative by comparing his/her identification with the information reflected on the Authorization Form on file.

Authorized representatives are expected to bring the old Philippine passport of the applicant as the old passport shall be cancelled prior to the release of the new one. The old and new passports shall be released to the authorized representative after the representative has confirmed that the personal information reflected on the new passport is correct.

Authorized representatives and passport holders are advised to review the personal information reflected on the new passports thoroughly.

3.    Passport Delivery Service

Passport applicants who wish to have their new passports delivered to them via courier service are required to avail of this option on the day of their passport application and inform the passport processor accordingly. Intercity delivery of passports costs TWD270.00 while delivery to outlying islands costs TWD290.00.

The passport applicant shall surrender their old passport to the passport processor on the day of their passport application.

MECO Passport Services shall process the release of new passports upon receipt of the delivery from the Department of Foreign Affairs. The passport releasing officer shall pack the old/cancelled passport and the new passport into a tamper and water-proof envelope, for onward transmittal by the courier service to the address provided by the applicant. Should the courier service experience any difficulties in delivering the parcel, they shall reach out to the passport applicant through the contact number provided.

Passport applicants who opt to use the passport delivery service may also monitor the status of their passports through the Passport Releasing Portal
