Philippines launches online visa system for Taiwanese

The Philippine government launched a new visa application system Wednesday, allowing Taiwan travelers to obtain tourist visas online.

Under the Electronic Travel Authorization system, ROC nationals over the age of 14 seeking to visit the Philippines for tourism purposes can now apply online for a visa at a cost of NT$1,100 (US$35.6), which is also payable online. Successful applicants will be granted a single entry visa for a stay of up to 30 days, according to the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) in Taipei. The single-entry visa fee has been reduced by NT$100 under the new system.

MECO Chairman Amadeo Perez Jr. said that the new measure was designed to improve travel convenience for Taiwanese tourists to visit the Philippines, boost the number of Taiwanese visitors to the country, and promote people-to-people interaction and exchanges between the two countries.

Lin Song-huann, the ROC representative to the Philippines, said the new visa application system was a win-win measure that was achieved through joint efforts by the two countries.
